Bury based cable and pipe seal manufacturer Roxtec, has completed work on a €300m project for the EirGrid East-West Interconnector Project to supply electricity between North Wales and Dublin.
Roxtec UK managing director Graham O’Hare said the project has capacity to power up to 350,000 British or Irish homes and is the first to use 200kV for this specific kind of cable.

Mr O’Hare said Roxtec’s electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) penetration seals have been specified for the sub-stations offering protection against water, fire, dust and electro-magnetic interference.
“Electronic equipment is highly sensitive,” he said. “It is vital there are no disturbances between control signals and the converter stations. Our EMC seals were used to seal the HVDC cables where they enter the converter stations in Deeside and Dublin.”
Mr O’Hare said Roxtec’s responsiveness and ability to supply the required product quickly, was instrumental in winning the contract.
