Polaris MD appointed trustee to Battle of the Atlantic Memorial

Polaris managing director Ben Pinnington has been appointed a trustee to the Battle of the Atlantic Memorial campaign in Liverpool.

The memorial will be the UK’s national memorial to battle, the longest of World War Two, which saw around 100,000 people killed in what Churchill described as ‘the dominating factor’ of the war. The memorial will recognise the lionhearted men and women who served and died, many from Merseyside, in terrifying conditions hunted by U-Boats, underlining Britain’s reliance then as now on shipping as an island nation. Liverpool has been chosen as the location for the memorial as it was the command headquarters of the war based at Western Approaches now a museum.

Ben said: “I am delighted to join the charity as a Trustee and throw our weight behind the campaign,” he said. “Polaris has worked on the campaign since 2017 including the press launch in January 2018, where we worked with the BOA veteran the late Graeme Cubbin, pictured. When I asked Graeme what the battle meant to him he said ‘without it the Nazis would have occupied Britain and we’d be speaking German.’

Polaris will be helping the campaign with publicity and contacts around the world notably in America, Poland, India and China.
