Polaris has visited Oman to help promote the 300th drydocking at Oman Drydock Company, one of the newest and biggest shipyards in the world.
The multi-million dollar contract saw the Greek owned Oil Bulk Ore carrier, the Olympic Luck, converted to a VLCC. The ship is owned by Springfield Shipping and the Onassis Foundation. Polaris directors Ben and Sam Pinnington attended the special ceremony to mark the event at ODC which is run in partnership with Korean shipbuilder DSME.
“We are very proud to support ODC with this major project and important milestone,” said Polaris director Ben Pinnington. “The progress being made at ODC and in the new city of Duqm is highly newsworthy and we are pleased to use our English language PR skills to promote what is happening to the international maritime press and the English written Middle East media. Polaris has been working in Oman for the last year and we intend to grow our operations to support its hugely exciting maritime and engineering sectors.
Mr Pinnington said the appointment is the latest in a series of overseas business wins for the company which specialises in the maritime, offshore, energy and engineering sectors.
“We have worked with ODC for around a year now helping promote it to the international maritime press,” he said. “We have worked hard over a number of years on Merseyside, and in the North West, to develop a track record in maritime sector marketing. That experience of supporting a wide range of maritime companies, together with our training in journalism and being sector specialist is winning us more work at home and abroad.”
Polaris first visited Oman in February 2014 to promote ODC’s 200th drydocking of the Maersk Wisconsin. Polaris’ maritime client base includes Cammell Laird shipyard, Birkenhead’s SeaKing Electrical and Bootle lifejacket maker International Safety Products. Polaris was founded on Merseyside and has offices in Ellesmere Port, Liverpool and Manchester.
ODC opened in 2011 following a $1.5bn investment and is 1.3 million m2 in size. It is based in the new port and logistics city of Duqm and is presently undergoing $15bn of infrastructure investments.
